Interesting.  As far as i know they smileys and so on are a funtion of the sheer volume of page views a successful social network generates.  It's impossible to fill up the site with decent ads so they have to fill-in with total crap.

I think facebook might be better off trying to charge users a small annual fee for some kind of premium account rather than doing a myspace and chucking low CPM ads all over the place.</description>

					<description>Truly a low point for Facebook having the smilies.

I think people do judge sites by the advertising they carry, and the fact Facebook's were low key was an attraction for me over MySpace.</description>
